Introduction
As the colder months settle in, it’s the perfect time to embrace the comforts of winter while prioritising your wellbeing. From staying active indoors to enjoying warming, nutritious meals there are many ways to continue to thrive during this season.

Here are some practical tips from our wellness consultant Holly Limbric to help you stay healthy, happy and energised throughout the chillier days ahead.

1. Seek out natural light
With shorter days, getting some natural light helps to regulate your circadian rhythm, supporting sleep and mood. Try a quick walk during daylight hours, ideally in the morning or midday, to soak in what light you can - even on overcast days, it can make a difference.

2. Enjoy hydrating, warming drinks
Staying hydrated in winter is just as important, though it often takes a bit more intention. Warming herbal teas, water with lemon, or infusions with ginger and cinnamon are comforting options that also provide a natural boost of plant polyphenols to support the immune system. Bone broth is another excellent choice, offering nutrients to nourish your joints and gut while keeping you cosy.

3. Make the most of seasonal foods
Winter vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, and leafy greens are packed with vitamins C and A that support immunity. Soups, stews, and warm salads make them easy to enjoy. Enhance your meals with spices like turmeric, ginger, and garlic for an extra boost to both flavour and immunity.

4. Stay active
Winter can make outdoor exercise less appealing, so it’s a great time to explore indoor options. Gentle movement, such as yoga or stretching helps to boost circulation and reduce stiffness associated with a more sedentary lifestyle. Now might be a great time to explore group exercise classes or try a one-to-one session with a trainer. Both can help improve motivation, offering the added benefit of fun and social interaction.

5. Embrace rest and relaxation
Winter often brings a slower pace, which makes it a perfect season to prioritise rest. Aim for a steady 7-8 hours of sleep each night to bolster your immune system and overall wellbeing. Exploring mindfulness or meditation practices can help to reduce effects of physical and mental stress.

6. Stay connected
With darker days, winter can sometimes impact mood, so it’s helpful to focus on mental health too. Stay connected with friends and family, and make time for activities that bring you joy. Consider trying something new, like singing, art or aqua aerobics classes At Auriens - you might just discover a hidden talent.
