Introduction
Dan McCaskie is the Head of Concierge and Guest Services at Auriens Chelsea. He shares his favourite local spots. As told to Alice Cairns and featured in Sloane Square Magazine.

AS MANY OF AURIENS’ RESIDENTS HAVE DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA, DO THEY HELP YOU BUILD A LIBRARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS?

Many residents have deep ties to the arts and creative industries and offer invaluable recommendations. For instance, one resident informed me about the opening of Le Deli Robuchon on King’s Road before it was public knowledge, thanks to their longstanding relationship with a member of the Robuchon family.

WHAT ARE THE HIDDEN GEMS IN THE AREA THAT YOU RECOMMEND?

The team at St Luke’s, led by Father Brian, are wonderful, and the cafe is an underrated spot for a hearty breakfast. The church grounds are also undergoing a beautiful transformation with input from our residents, including new plantings and improved accessibility. At Jago on Elystan Street, the conversation is as good as the products. It is known for its friendly service, quality meats and for having the best eggs in Chelsea. Plus, it sells eggs individually, so I was quite confused the first time a resident asked me to run over and get four eggs – I always thought it was a dozen or half dozen! I’ve also taken some of our residents on a boys’ night out to our Dovehouse Street neighbour, Le Colombier. It is a Chelsea institution, the food and atmosphere are impeccable and it’s a firm favourite among our residents.

ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A STROLL AWAY FROM THE MAIN STREETS OF CHELSEA?

A walk down Oakley Street reveals charming houses with beautiful gardens, reminiscent of my native Cornwall’s lanes. I always think Cheyne Walk offers a scenic riverside path with stunning views, especially at night when the bridges are lit up. But London often requires a fresh perspective – as our chauffeur, Neil, always reminds me, “Look up!”

WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND LOCALLY?

Ice cream is my indulgence. The Ice Cream Union serves incredible flavours - the pistachio is so good. For a quick pick-meup, I love Casa Manolo’s jamón ibérico sandwich. The crispy, delicious bread is a treat, and it’s a favourite for both me and my Spanish wife. Also, the girls at White Coco are exceptional. Their attention to detail and customer service reflect the values we uphold at Auriens.
