Introduction
We chat with Andrew Walby about his new role as Wellbeing Manager at Auriens Chelsea, his career in healthcare and his passion for helping others.

Andrew’s journey in health and wellbeing began as a Care Support Worker, where his dedication earned him the Home Care Worker of the Year award at the Southwark Care Awards. Now, as part of our team, Andrew plays a pivotal role in ensuring the wellbeing of our residents.

Q: Andrew, what drew you to a career in care?
I’ve always had a passion for helping others. My career started as a Care Support Worker, where I quickly learned the importance of empathy and respect in care before progressing through Senior Carer and Field Care Supervisor roles. This led to my role as a Care Coordinator at Draycott Nursing & Care, where I gained experience managing care services and supporting families.

Q: What excites you about joining Auriens Chelsea?
Auriens Chelsea’s commitment to holistic, person-centred support and wellbeing is inspiring. I’m excited to be part of a team that prioritises the needs of each resident, ensuring they feel supported, cared for, and valued.

Q: Can you describe your role at Auriens Chelsea?
I act as a bridge between our residents, the Draycott Nursing & Care team, Kyros, and the wider Auriens team. My role is to ensure that residents’ needs are met seamlessly, whether it’s addressing any concerns they might have or coordinating support. I’m typically introduced to new residents just before they move in, so those who may need a little extra help are supported from day one. This proactive approach ensures a smooth transition and immediate support for our residents.

Q: How does Auriens ensure residents receive top-notch support?
The whole of the operations team undergoes regular training, ranging from falls to pool training to ensure we’re providing the best possible support and are ready for any occasion. We also work proactively as a team to address any changes in a resident’s needs promptly.

Q. What does 'person-centred support and wellbeing' mean to you?
It means seeing each resident as an individual, understanding their needs and preferences, working in partnership and ensuring our support enhances their quality of life. It’s about listening, respecting their choices, and providing support that truly resonates with who they are.

Q: What would you say to families considering Auriens Chelsea?
At Auriens, your loved one isn’t just a resident - they’re part of a community where their wellbeing is our top priority. We offer a safe, nurturing environment with a dedicated team ready to provide personalised care and support, if or when required. In addition, our partnership with Kyros allows us to proactively address symptoms of frailty and maximise opportunities to stay physically and mentally strong, which is key to ageing well.

Q: Where will we find you after all the hard work?
I like to stay active, so I spend a lot of time cycling and walking. I’ve recently finished exploring all of London’s canals, which has been a great way to see the city. As a former book editor and publisher, I also love getting lost in a book. On top of that, I volunteer for the charity Dementia Adventure, which helps people with dementia enjoy the outdoors - a cause that I’m passionate about.
